Firefighters are often an incredibly close knit community. Each individual in this field must share a common goal of protecting their community at the potential risk of their own personal safety. These men and women share not only a uniform but countless meals, life milestones, traumatic events, customs, practices, and so much more. The fire service forges familial bonds that are only strengthened with each call responded to and meal prepared at the station. Folk groups are typically composed of individuals that share common beliefs, traditions, and values and/or are closely bonded by similar or shared experiences. Those in the field of firefighting typically share the incredibly strong bond forged by extreme trauma and a significant amount of time shared with one another. While it might seem strange that an occupation could be considered a folk group, firefighters share a culture that is unlike any other profession.
